As a fan of the prince of Persia franchise back then, I have always wanted to see more console games, but my expectation did not come to be. Well, to my surprise, Ubisoft decided to remake the “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake and this got me really excited.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake
According to Ubisoft on their website “The critically acclaimed Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is back! Remade for the very first time by Ubisoft”. They went on to give details on the which entails “Relieve the legendary tale, or discover it new for the very first time. Embark on a journey as the prince to save your kingdom from the treacherous Vizier, in this timeless classic.”
Just as announced in September 2020, prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake had a lot of the fans of the series like myself really happy. The game was so popular that it was one of the very first video games to be adapted onto the silver screen somewhat decently, With the 2010 movies staring jake Gyllenhaal as the prince.
Prince of Persia Remake Delay Issues
But ever since that announcement came, there has been much on what we should expect what the game would look like and what enhancements players should expect. The only thing that has come from the project was delay announcement after delay announcement. At some point in time, it seems like the Remake of Prince of Persia: Sands of time is beginning to feel like a fever dream.
Back in 2020, Ubisoft originally announce that the newly established Pune and Mumbai studios would be in charge of the development of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake. Fans of the series were faced with a surprisingly underwhelming announcement trailer for the prince of Persia remake, but they are still offering users the opportunity to pre-order the game immediately upon announcement. Pre-order perks were showcased also. Jan 21, 2021, was the date to look out for until it was not. The development of the game went to hell.
GamePlay
No gameplay footage of the game came out, nor gameplay screenshots offered of the upcoming remake. Only repeated call-to-actions for the sands of time remake pre-orders and its perks. On Dec 8, 2020, Ubisoft released a statement that announced that the game remake has been faced with some setbacks due to the ongoing pandemic.
Release Date
A new release date was announced: March 18, 2021 – the game was then pushed back for two months. Then there was total silence. A month before the official release, Ubisoft released another statement. The remake was pushed back once again, but this time the company gave no specific date – only that it was pushed to a much later date.
So, the question here now is will Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake actually get released? It is more likely than not since Ubisoft’s financial projections have given the remake April 2022 to March 2023 release window.
Now it is May 2022 and the project has been taken over recently by an established branch that is known to offer games year-in, year-out – a sign of Ubisoft reprioritizing games development. Hopefully, there would be more detailed information coming in sooner rather than later, and excited players would get to see more of the remake.
